About Us
Who are we?
12 Stones Electric is owned and operated by master electrician Dan Hankner who lives in Davenport, Iowa with his amazing wife Megan and two wonderful little monsters - Macy and Charlee.
How did we get started?
I started my apprenticeship straight out of high school. I served my 5 years and 10,000 hours OJT as an apprentice under some excellent electricians while I spent my nights in class. However, only a few months after I passed my test and became a licensed Journeyman, the company I was working for went bankrupt, and I found myself newly married and without a job.
'Cast your burden upon the Lord, and he will sustain you.' Psalm 55:22 became quite real to me. You'd think such a time would be disastrous to a new marriage, a time of stress and pain, but it was the exact opposite. Over the next two years God provided me with enough work to provide for my family, and began planting a seed for something bigger. It wasn't until late 2012, with the birth of my beautiful daughter Macy, that I realized I could no longer put off what God had placed on my heart.
A lot of people are dreamers. They get an idea and completely shut out reality, shut out the cost of those dreams. Not so with me. I understood long before I took the step that starting a business was not only a huge responsibility, it was a huge gamble. But what is gain without risk?
In 2013 I opened 12 Stones Electric. A lot has happened to bring me to where I am today, but I have one pervading thought when I look back at how I got here, and it's quite simple - I am blessed. ~ Dan Hankner
Where did the '12 Stones' come from?
In the old testament (Joshua 4), the Israelites went through a lot - slavery in Egypt, near death at the hands of Egyptian warriors, and wandering in the desert for 40 years. Finally, after all they'd been through, God led them across the Jordan and into the promised land, and after they crossed the river He had one leader from each of the 12 tribes place a stone in a pile as a monument , so that they would never forget what God had done for them.
I want to be like that. I don't want to forget all that God has done for me. This is my monument. ~ Dan Hankner
